HELPFUL ANSWERS FOR ETSY SELLERS
How to use the free Etsy profit calculator
Can I use the Etsy profit calculator without an account?
Yes. MakerVista’s public profit and discount calculator is free to use without creating a MakerVista account, connecting an Etsy shop, or entering credit card details. Enter your own prices and costs to calculate an estimate.
How does MakerVista calculate estimated profit?
Estimated profit equals the item price after discount plus shipping charged to the buyer, minus product cost, actual shipping cost, estimated fees, advertising, and other costs per sale. The calculation covers one item per sale and uses the amounts you enter.
Does the calculator use exact Etsy fees?
No. It uses an editable fee percentage, initially set to 12%, applied to the discounted item price plus buyer-paid shipping. This is a planning estimate, not a statement of Etsy’s fee rate or an exact fee breakdown. Adjust the estimate to reflect your shop’s costs and enter advertising separately.
Which product costs can I enter?
The product cost field is intended for materials, labor, and packaging for one item. Enter actual shipping cost separately, along with advertising and other costs per sale. The estimate only includes the costs you supply.
Can I check a discount before changing my Etsy price?
Yes. Enter a selling price, discount, and costs to see estimated profit, profit margin, break-even item price, and maximum discount before a loss. The break-even estimate holds your entered costs, shipping, and fee percentage fixed. Using the calculator does not change your Etsy listings.
Does selecting another currency convert my amounts?
No. The currency selector changes how amounts are displayed; it does not convert exchange rates. Enter every amount in the selected currency. The available currencies are USD, CAD, GBP, EUR, and AUD.
